Hey all! I’m Erin Hancock, the Tyler Loop’s summer intern. I’m originally from Tyler and am super excited to be working with the Loop! Today, we’re introducing a new series of weekly listings. Each week, we will highlight a handful of cool local events we think y’all might be interested in. Upcoming events for future weeks are listed at the bottom of the page!
Thursday, August 3: Wool Needle Felting classes begin at the Tyler Public Library. Limited supplies are provided. Learn to make a round felted owl, wool tomato, or a tiny wool change bowl! Classes from 10am to 12pm on the first and fourth Thursday of each month.
Friday, August 4: Hank & Patsy: The songs of Hank Williams and Patsy Cline performed by Jake Penrod, winner of this year’s Ameripolitan award for Best Honkey Tonk Male Artist, and Lisa Layne, famous for singing the pre-Mariah Carey version of “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Liberty Hall in downtown Tyler. 7:30pm-9:30pm. Tickets from $25 to $35.

Saturday, August 5: Rivethead Concert at Clicks Live with Discard the Weak. Rivethead is a Dallas-based metal band whose song is played before the 3rd down at Dallas Cowboys games. Its members include Steve Page, originally from Stotford, England, who has appeared on television as a Stormtrooper in an ad and a Wookie in a local TV news spot.

Upcoming Events:
Thursday, August 10: Ladies’ Night Block Party with live music at the Off the Square block downtown. Hosted by vendors on the block: Moon Rivers Naturals, El Guapo Records, 903 Handmade, Moss, and ETX Brewery. There’ll also be a pop-up market featuring Alex & Afton Vintedge, artist Stephani Renea, M+K Provisions, Sugar Boogah Confections, and Cafe 1948. Free admission.
Thursday, August 10: Pooches on the Patio at Andy’s Frozen Custard. Pooches and cream! Dogs are welcome at Andy’s from 6:30 to 8:30pm. A portion of sales will go towards the SPCA of Tyler.
Saturday, August 12: Hit the Bricks! Activities include haunted walking or riding tours of downtown Tyler, live music, shopping, both a scavenger and a treasure hunt, and an open art exhibit. This event takes place on every 2nd Saturday of each month in downtown Tyler.
Sunday, August 13: Little Image Musings Concert at the Foundry. Odd Folks and the Red Door are featured bands. Adult tickets $8, Student tickets $6.
Saturday, August 19: Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Bluegrass Band will be playing at Liberty Hall from 8pm to 10pm.The band covers Beatles songs, adding its own unique spin with shades of bluegrass, jazz, and classical music. Tickets range from $15 to $25.
Saturday, August 19: American Association of Zookeepers Bowling for Rhinos Fundraiser at Green Acres Bowl from 5-10pm. Help save both rhinos and ecosystems! Funds from this event go to support multiple national parks and conservancies in Kenya, Sumatra, and Indonesia. Online adult tickets are $15 and online child tickets are $13. Tickets at the door are $17 for adults and $15 for kids.
Tuesday, August 22: Junior League of Longview Poverty Conference at the Belcher Center at LeTourneau University. The conference aims to bring the local community together in order to more effectively fight poverty. Liz Murray, author of Breaking Night, is the keynote speaker. Tickets are $25.
Thursday, August 24: Movie on Jenkins Lawn at Tyler Junior College: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. 8pm-10:30pm.
Tuesday, August 29: Open Taps at the True Vine Brewing Company. The event will include live music and food trucks!
Thursday, September 7: Coworking Tyler Meetup at the Foundry. Coworking Tyler aims to foster collaboration between independent professionals. The meet up happens every first Thursday of the month.
